Speedy's Barbecue, Inc. was purchased by Roy Dunn and his cousin, the late Bud Dunn in 1970. The previous owner operated as "Speedy's Drive-In", which opened in 1963. In 1978 Roy's brother, Boyd Dunn, bought their cousin's interest in the business. They have together co-owned and operated the restaurant since that time.
They take great pride in their family owned business. Since their beginning, they have dedicated themselves to the 3-Q's -- "Quality, Quantity, and Quick Service." Speedy's is one of the few restaurants that still offers "Curb Service" for your convenience. They have an average of 35 employees and their wait-staff is friendly and always willing to assist you with your order.
Speedy's was a participant in the first annual Lexington Barbecue Festival in 1984. They have continued this tradition as it brings hundreds of thousands of "Barbecue Lovers" to their city.
So go there and enjoy one of their many delicious menu items. But you must always remember…bring a BIG appetite as they are known for their x-tra large portions of BBQ sandwiches, BBQ trays, and BBQ plates. What people are saying about Speedy BBQ :
"The best bbq in the world by far. Been coming here most of my life and it never gets old. This is our favorite place to eat. We get enough food to fill us up and have lunch the next day! Also the skins are amazing. Keep being perfect speedy's!"
"In my opinion this is the best Lexington BBQ in the area. The sauce is quite amazing, again the best in the genre. Very quick service and great decor in the restaurant. A must for any BBQ fan!"
"Best BBQ around. Curbside pickup is much better than going inside to eat because of how cramped it is but nonetheless, it's still amazing!"
"I Loved this BBQ spot. Down home family business... they've been doing great BBQ for many many years. Not fancy, but everyone is there for the BBQ. Very friendly staff. I'll be coming back soon. If I lived nearby, I'd be here ALL the time."
"With 20+ BBQ joints in Lexington. you have choices, and we've tried most. This is our favorite. Portions large, so we'll typically order a chopped bbq tray and a bbq sandwich. Enough sides for both of us. They pork skins are great. So are the hushpuppies."
"There are a lot of BBQ places in Lexington and this one is my family's favorite! Also, they have wonderful breakfasts and my husband says their grits are the best he's ever tasted!"
