Swan Creek Wine Trail
The Swan Creek Wine Trail is located in the Piedmont region of northwestern North Carolina. The trail is in the foothills of the Brushy and Blue Ridge Mountains and includes parts of Wilkes, Yadkin, and Iredell counties. This region is notable for its loamy soil with schist and mica. And its climate is slightly cooler, with less rainfall and snow than the surrounding areas. The rocky, mineral rich soils, the climate, the higher elevation and a longer growing season of this area is conducive to the production of vinifera wine grapes and makes the wines from Swan Creek unique and distinctive award-winners.
Located about 35 minutes from Winston-Salem, or an easy hour’s drive from Greensboro or Charlotte, all the wineries are in close proximity to each other. Trying to fit in six wine tastings in one day may mke you feel a little rushed, so we suggest that you make it weekend trip. This way you can not only enjoy the award-winning wines but savor the quiet country life, the surrounding rolling hills, the amiable small towns and best of all Swan Creek's hospitable people. All of which brings a touch of Old World charm to the Tar Heel state.
If you can’t carve out a full weekend, you can visit all six wineries for a great day trip. Just make sure you bring a designated driver. If you’re travel by car, just follow the purple and green grape cluster signs designating wineries on the Swan Creek Trail.
If you’re into cycling, try the route outlined on the Tour de Vino’s website.
